Portland House, Cape York is an ideal base for exploring the greater Iron Range area.
Portland Roads is rich with history as a safe anchorage for the early exploration of the Cape, gold mining, and the defence of Northern Australia during WW2. Today, it is a launching point for small boats on these pristine, far northern areas of the Great Barrier Reef closeby.
Build your adventure as you explore the adjacent Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park rainforest. The natural wonders and endemic species of birdlife make this area so unique.
Iconic Chili Beach is located a short drive away and is a great place for a long walk, beachcombing, or to simply enjoy a picnic lunch with the family.
Thank you, Greg & Sheree, for your hospitality. We have had such a great time seeing all the birds and animals we hoped for – and more! The Cassowary with four babies was a true highlight! This is truly a dreamy place for a couple of biologists. The house is great and so was the food.
Thank you for your warm hospitality and unique experience. Thank you to for giving us southerners some insight into life at the Cape. A memorable experience which we will never forget.
Best Beach house!
So much room, so much to look at. Cool bedroom at night much appreciated. Thank you, Sheree!
Thanks Greg & Sheree for a lovely stay! We really appreciated all the local advice and Sheree’s delicious cooking. We hope to see you again one day.
Thank you Greg & Sheree for the most wonderful stay! The rainforests, heathlands & beaches were fantastic for birds. We saw many interesting species though I’m hoping my “Prisilla Queen of the Desert” white shirt didn’t scare many more away.

Sitting in this beach house felt like stepping onto the set of Death in Paradise! We’ve loved it. Thanks Sheree & Greg for your lovely hospitality.
Thanks Sheree & Greg, for a fabulous, nature filled Cape York experience. It was great!
What a wonderful, relaxing stay. Everything was perfect for both a twitcher and non-birder. The couch with the view of the water probably has a permanent dint in the cushion from all the lazing that was done! Thank you Sheree & Greg for the fantastic food and great conversation.
Magic in every way!
